I used Vis2002 to create an interactive / animated map of a telecommunication
network. The NetworkMap allows operators to flight simulate over a geographic
plan of the network and drill into selected sites to view the on site
equipment. Custom made shapes representing antenae , towers fibres and
transmission nodes are viewable. Shapes representing data routers and Data
swwitches can hyperlink to real world nodes using the telnet function. All
shapes are linked to an MSaccess database which is periodically updated with
the actual configurational settings of the live network. This enables the
NetworkMap to trace phone calls and and data downloads across the entire
Network with guaranteed accuracy. simulated fibre breaks in the NetworkMap
can predict impact on customer service. I guess the deal is Yes Mapping a
network is possible, just how far do you need to go
