Network Printer - Word 2003 Conflict solution? workaround

Jack

Word 2003 in Vista has been very slow-and frequently stalls with a "not
responding" message. I was about to give up (on Vista) when I noticed a
message on this this board that suggested that network printers could affect
the speed of opening a file. I tried changing my default printer from the
network printer to the XPS document printer--and the results were amazing.
What is the cause of this? and is there a fix--I would like to have my
default printer set to the network printer.

There's something incompatible with your network printer. Check to see if
there is an updated driver available and then delete and reinstall the
printer again. Note that Word uses printer drivers extensively for page
layout: it must be able to see a locally installed printer driver.

Word queries thr printer driver for various tasks and if it can't find the
driver it can become unresponsive and/or crash. The solution is to install
the printer driver locally instead of using it off the network. For this,
remove the printer and then add it back using the Add Printer Wizard.
