Network printers and reports

Access uses the printer's drivers to create the reports. Basically a
report is a print preview. I have a KONICA MINOLTA Di470 PCL6 in my
office which is connected to the network. Anytime that anyone sets
their default printer to the Minolta, viewing reports in Access is not
possible. No error message when trying to view a report. If you try
to make a report using the wizard, when you press finish you get an
error "The wizard is unable to create your report". Is there a fix to
this other than changing your default printer?

Access uses the metrics from the printer driver to calculate how to lay out
the report. If there is no printer installed, it is unable to figure out the
reports. Similarly if there is a problem with the printer driver, it is
unable to calculate the reports, and the behavior is as you describe.

Therefore, it seems that either:
a) the printer driver is faulty;
b) the printer driver is not correctly installed.

You could solve (a) by getting a newer (or possibly even an older) driver
for the printer from its manufacturer.

You could test (b) by deleting the network printer from a computer, and then
installing the same one as a local printer. (You don't have to actually wire
the printer up: just install it as a local printer.) If this solves the
problem, you have verified that the printer driver itself is fine, and so
the problem is with the way it is installed as a network printer. Your
network people can then troubleshoot that.

Thanks for the reply, I never thought about trying the printer as
local. Of course I would have to find the drivers for it. Or, sumbit
a Help Desk ticket (they are in Canada I am in Georgia) and try to
explain this to the people who we subcontract all our computer
equipment and service.
