Network save problem

I cannot save from Office 2007 (Vista Ultimate) to a Windows XP machine on my
network. I can create and delete files on the XP machine outside of Office
(i.e., through Explorer) but cannot save file from Office to that or any
other computer's shared directories on my network. Any thoughts?

What do you mean by "cannot save"? What happens when you try to save?
If you get an error message, please quote it exactly and completely.

Initially, a box is displayed that says "Saving as
\\name\documents\filename.doc" with a progress bar. Then I receive an error
box that says:
"There has been a network or file permission error. The network connection
may be lost."

Despite the error, a new file is actually created, with a size of zero bytes.

I believe this must be an Office problem, because I can save the file to the
local hard disk, and then use Windows Explorer to move the document to any
other shared hard drive or folder on the network without a problem. I can
also use other programs (Acrobat, for example) to save documents to other
hard drives and folders on the network.

Thanks -- I didn't find that article when I searched the knowledge base. I
can't believe the proposed workarounds, though -- I tried using full UNC but
that didn't change anything. I'm the only person on a gigabit network, so it
can't be a traffic issue (workaround #4). My remaining 2 choices are #1,
save to the local drive and then use a file manipulation program like Windows
Explorer to move the file to the network shared drive I'd like to use (seems
ridiculous given that other programs have no problem) or #2, map every drive
and folder on the network that I might want to save to as a mapped drive
(workaround #3). On my other desktops running Word, I can save to other
network shared resources. This makes no logical sense that on one of the
desktops, I just can't save to network drives. Got any other ideas or
thoughts?
