I have one back end database with nothing but tables. Three separate
front-end databases (referred to as “Aâ€, “B†and “Câ€) link to one or more of
these tables. All databases are on networked file servers, with the back end
in its own directory where all relevant users have full permissions.
Front-end database “A†throws error 3051: "The Microsoft Jet database engine
cannot open the file '[FileName]'. It is already opened exclusively by
another user, or you need permission to view its data."
Front-end databases “B†and “C†work just fine – they can both be open
simultaneously and neither user gets this error message.
This has happened even when the front- and back-end mdb's are placed in a
folder where the relevant users unquestionably have full permission. We are
running XP Professional, and Access 2003.
There is no question about the back end being already opened exclusively,
since I know it was not open at all when the front end was opened.
Any ideas on the problem/solution?
