Networking two home computers

I am running XP and Office XP on my Dell Dimension 8100. Husband has new Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop. How do I begin to network the two so that we can share the HP scanner and printer? I haven't connected two computers since Windows came out with Windows for Workgroups years ago and have been out of the business for some time. Any assistance or reference to a web site that can help me will be very much appreciated.

For a better range of opinions try a Windows XP newsgroup, since Office's
presence on your machine won't make any difference for networking.

Windows XP's Help and Support Center (off the Start menu) has a topic "Home
or small office network overview " that may help a little.

Please repost in a group appropriate to your OS
(microsoft.public.windowsxp.network_web) as this has nothing whatsoever to
do with Office (other than you have it installed). Sharing a printer is easy
but, TTBOMK, scanners cannot be networked because of the way TWAIN works it
requires the unit to be physically present.

Should be able to network your printer, but not sure about a scanner.
