Never-Ending problem using Entourage Identity Feature

In all the years that I have been using Entourage ... I would think that Microsoft would AT SOME POINT fix this horrendous, intrusive and bothersome problem of having to shut down all open Microsoft programs in order to switch identities ... IS THIS EVER GOING TO HAPPEN?????

For crying out loud ... it's 2008. Can't you people figure out a way to not make us do this?? I have to keep Identities separate so that I can keep my work email separate from my personal email and both separate from our "catch all" email. If I didn't have separate Identities, I'd have to have separate email programs. Instead, I cannot keep Word or Excel open for any length of time because you people REFUSE to fix this problem! It is dumb for you, because I rarely use the programs. Instead Entourage is the ONLY MS program I use and I have purchased iWork so I can open a spreadsheet and leave the program open all day.

No and there are good reasons for it. Just accept it.

You DO NOT have to have separate Identity to keep your mail separated.
That's what Rules are for.

I just upgraded form office:mac home & student edition to office:mac standard. When I try to start Entourage, I get the following message: "This identity cannot be opened with this version of Entourage." What do I do?

All Office applications use the Office database in some way, you can setup
projects that have Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents in them for example,
you can get the addresses from the Office Address Book when you do a Mail
merge for example; when you swich identities you switch databases and that
is why all programs need to close when switching identities.

When I try to start Entourage, I get the following message: "This identity
cannot be opened with this version of Entourage." What do I do?

"This Identity Cannot Be Opened With This Version of Entourage"
This message usually means, for example, any Identity saved with a 12.1.0 or
later version will not open in 12.0.0 or 12.0.1. Since there was a database
format change in 12.1.0 (SP1), Entourage 12.0.0 or 12.0.1 cannot open a
database saved in the later version.

Entourage 2004 also had a database upgrade from the original release. Once
you upgrade, the Identity will open.
