New Blank Document

My daughter accidently changed the new document template and each time a new document was opened a chart that she created for a school project showed up. today I figured out how to change the"normal"template back to a blank document. However, now when I click on "new blank document" nothing comes up. Help! I just downloaded the Office mac 2008 version and want to take care of this glitch soon. Thank you.
