I bought a new computer because it was no longer any good, however when I
went to reinstall Office on the new computer it no longer would accept
authenticity. What do I do.This will mean I have lost money.

What do you mean by "it would no longer accept authenticity"?

If the version of Office you have was purchased with the old computer then
the Office package is probably an OEM version and can't be "legally"
transferred to another computer. Look at the license key sticker in the
lower right corner and if it has OEM or MLK then it is OEM. If it has FPP
then it is retail and can be transferred. No sticker then look at the disk
itself. If it says for purchase with a computer then it is OEM.

If you determine that it is retail, uninstall any trial version of Office
from the new computer and any activation assistant, reboot the computer and
attempt to install the old version.

Doesn't fix your issue, post back with all pertinent information like:
operating system on new computer, previous version of Office (2000, XP,
2003, etc.) and post exactly what error messages you are getting.

I have the same problem. My new Compac XP was purchased just so that I can
use my XP Office 2003 from my old Gateway. As far as I can tell, the new
Compac has no Office installed at all (trial or otherwise). But when we try
to install the Office 2003, nothing happens. So we tried clicking on add new
program. But as soon as it tried to read from the disk drive, it said it
couldn't. Although I have a single license, it should work if I can't use it

If you have an OEM version of Office, then no it won't work.

I bought the Office 2003 from Best Buy. It was not originally on the old
Gateway. So I have the original disk with Key.

Does the CD drive read other disks?

Yes. The new Compac has worked fine with other disks. But when we load the
Office 2003 disk, it doesn't see anything. It acts like there is nothing in
the drive.

Have you tried cleaning the disk? Does it work in other drives?

The disk is clean. I tried opening it in my other computer (with a Vista
operating system) and it opened up. But I removed it immediately since I
have Office 2007 on this machine. The new XP machine is for old XP software
to run only.

I tried loading it on the Compac again and all it does is spin and make loud
buzzing noises for awhile. And then nothing. And when I go to view what is
in the disk drive, it shows nothing.

Put another disk in the drive........does that work?

Yes, as I mentioned earlier, every other disk we have put in the drive of the
Compac has worked. Only the Office 2003 disk won't open in the drive. It
has only been used once before when it was purchased and loaded into the
Gateway (2005). It has remained in its original packaging until yesterday
when I tried to load it into the new Compac.

Have you tried using the same disc on another computer? Was it readable in another
computer? If the answer is no then clearly the CD is faulty. The only way to
resolve this is to ask Microsoft if they are still selling Media Kit for Office 2003
products. I suspect you will have no luck if the disc is faulty. Also, I don't
think MS is selling media kit for old products. Try these contact numbers:

United States: (800) 360-7561, Monday through Friday, 5:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Pacific
Time.
Canada: (800) 933-4750, Monday through Friday, 5:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Pacific Time.
TTY customers: Contact Microsoft at (800) 718-1599, Monday through Friday, 5:00 A.M.
to 7:00 P.M. Pacific Time.

It was readable in another computer. I've been at my wits end regarding this
thing. I finally tried one more thing. I installed my 2006 TaxCut software,
which had been on the old computer. It installed perfectly. So I thought
I'd try the Office 2003 again. This time, although it still made horrible
buzzing noises, it loaded!! I can't explain it. But I activated and it
seems to be fine now.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help me!
