Eyes Got It

I recently purchased a new laptop and want to purchase office 2007 for this
one and upgrade the version on my other desktop computer. Since the new
computer does not have office on it, can I accomplish the upgrade and new
install with an office upgrade and not a totally new product? If so, how can
I do this?

You should read the terms of the EULA for each product to make sure you
understand what you are legally agreeing to:

That said, you can install most versions of Office on one desktop and one
laptop computer. So an upgrade to your full license would apply to both
systems, to the best of my knowledge.

You may want to call Microsoft and speak to a licensing specialist, however.

In order to install the upgrade on the new system, you will need to have the
original CDs for your earlier version.

Also make sure that your version of Office is a qualifying product for
Office 2007 upgrade:
