New distribution list error

When trying to create a distribution list in the shared contact folder I get
this error:

"The item could not be saved to this folder. The folder has been deleted
moved or you do not have permission. Do you want to save a copy of it in the
default folder for the item"

The folder has not been deleted or moved and I am logged on as
administrator.

I have done some minor editing to the contact form. Could this cause a
problem with creating a distribution list?
