new document default

Is there a way to always have a document open with both
the document map and the styles and formatting panes? As
it is, the document map always open, but never the styles
and formatting.

You need to change the normal template. Go to file, open
the normal template. Make the page look as you woud
like. click save.

I tried as you asked, but it still only opens documents
with the document map window, not with both the document
map and the style and setting window.... any other
suggestions?

Hi

Did you save your formatted doc as a template?

Click save as and then in type of document, it probably says 'template' or
'model' in English (sorry but my system is in French).

Then, if you open up from this template the next time , it should work.

AFAIK, this forces the New Document task pane on Startup, not Styles and
Formatting.
