"new document" opens a previous one

When I open a new document from the File menu or when I choose "blank
document" from the project gallery, what actually opens is a letter I
wrote before, not a blank document. So I checked that letter's file
information and it was a .dot instead of a .doc, so I assume I
mistakenly saved it as a template. I erased the .dot file from my
computer, restarted it and reopened Word, and it still opens this
letter when I open a new or blank document, it still doesn't open an
actually blank document. What can I do to get back to a blank new
document???
Cheers!

Hi whatever your name is:

Your diagnosis is correct, but you have deleted the wrong template.

The one you need to delete is named simply "Normal", not "Normal.dot".

Due to a bug in Word 2004, the Normal template does not have a .dot
extension to the file name.

You will find it in the Microsoft User Data folder. It may be the only
template you will find there. That strange location is a "feature". Well,
Microsoft thinks it is...

Hope this helps
