New Document requires a Windows Sharepoint Services-compatible app

I am getting this message when I try to create a new document by clicking on
New Document.

New Document requires a Windows Sharepoint Services-compatible application
and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or greater. To add a document to this
document library, click the 'Upload Document' button.

The Upload multiple documents hyperlink is also missing.

OneNote 2007 was installed on my machine and has been removed now.

I have re-installed OWC 2003 but there hasn't been a change.

What do I need to do?

You need to have Office 2003 or higher installed on your system. The OWCs in
absence of the corresponding Office version give you read but not create
capability. Does that help?

That was it. Once I got OWC re-installed, everything came back life.
