New document template changed on its own

I have Word 2002 on XP Pro. My default view is Print Layout. Recently, my
new documents started coming up with the space for the header and footer
missing until I click View/Header and Footer. It is really annoying as I
like to get a complete feel for how the dicumetn will look when printed.
Normal.DOT still shows the header and footer space. I did nothing to modify
it. My work computer did the same thing a few months previous and even our
IT guys had no idea how to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did the trick. Lifesaver might be too strong, but you are certainly a
