new document

Whenever I open my Word program, instead of a blank
document, it opens to an old letter I typed. I try to
delete it but it keeps coming back. The only way I can
create a new document it to delete the page and then
begin. But then the nex time I open the program, it is
right back to the same page.

Please advise
