new document

Sunday while I was typing a document, Word kept booting me
out. Finally I was able to continue typing if I auto-
saved to a disk every minute. Now today when I start
Word, the document I was typing comes up and I can not get
rid of it. In other words everytime I press new document,
I get the old one. What can I do. I need to type more
documents for college and cant get rid of these old ones.
