New email messages not appearing in inbox correctly

Am using Outlook Office Ultimate 2007. About a week ago, I noticed that
although I receive new email (the send/receive progress is visible in the
toolbar at the bottom of the screen), the new messages no longer appear in my
inbox until I either close and restart Outlook or open a folder then go back
to my inbox. Any idea what might be causing this or how to fix it?
