New email problem--comes in open & w/strikethrough

This just started this past week.

New email comes in--already opened and without touching anything the machine
puts a strikethrough on that email. I *stress* no human hand did this. It
just happens. Very spooky. It is happening to several people with different
restrictions (more and less).

Can't find anything on this. Yes, I understand completely about delete and
purge.
Outlook 2007, setup with IMAP, Vista and XP machines.

Hi Diane,
I am testing to see if KB976884 (update on junk email filter) may be causing
the problem-- I removed it and I'm waiting to see if that does it. The timing
would be right--the updates came in 1/8 and it started happening immediately.
Answer to your questions--no and no.

Are you accessing the mailbox using another device? Using rules?

Well, removing that update KB976884 just made it worse. Now, as soon as I
click on an email it puts a strikethrough on it. So I won't try it on the
other machines. I haven't created any rules, just used the minimum
restrictions like -- security low.

What worked--
We had been receiving a great deal of spam from Russia (?) and restricted
our firewall too much regarding the packets and ports--to the point where it
would receive the email, mark it as junk automatically but not delete it. It
was marking everything as junk. Loosening up the restrictions made all the
difference.
