New emails go directly to deleted items instead of sent items

I have Outlook 2007 connected to Exchange 2003. The user sends emails to
contacts, some internal, some external. Almost all email works as expected.
However occasionally there are emails that when sent, they go directly into
the deleted items folder instead of the sent items folder. The recipient does
receive the email. It seems that once an email does this, resending it will
do it every time so I am able to recreate the problem. Creating a new outlook
profile does not help. Creating a new windows / outlook profile on a
different machine does not help. There are no rules showing up within
outlook. I have removed all blocked email addresses. This is really odd.

Did you check for rules using owa?
