new fields for contacts

Can someone please tell me how to add additional fields
to a contact file. For example I want to add a customer
id number field. This would be an additional field to
business number, email, etc... I want this field to be
avaialble for my clients group..not all contacts. Thanks

You can add a new field to any single contact with the New button on the All Fields page. If you want a broader solution, design a custom form and use it with those contacts who need the extra information. See http://www.slipstick.com/dev/forms.htm for starter info.
