New HD and Office2000- unable to update, uninstall, icons are corrupted...

I have recently installed a new WD HD and using the supplied software and
following the instructions, copied the system files over to the new
partition...all works perfectly except that I can no longer get Office
Updates any longer nor can I even uninstall the Office Applications (Office
2000), also the icons are corrupted. The original HD (which is failing)
still works OK...WHAT IS GOING ON AND HOW DO I FIX IT??? I am using WinXP
HE. I have tried this twice with the same outcome. I would uninstall
Office 2000 and reinstall it if I could. Also, the Windows troubleshooting
site say there is reg. clean up utility available but not for WinXP HE.
Would REALLY appreciate some help...thanks, CP

Never mind...I guess this is a pretty common problem...found the solution in
one of the posts below...had to delete the registry key
(HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products (for Office 2000) before I could
access the site successfully and then reload all of the SPs and security
updates...but all seems to be back to nomal at this time...my thanks to

Still am wonder why it happens....????

Please not that this issue may apply to the other products that are listed
in this key also...and, in most cases, the same procedure works...CP
