New Install Crashing Problem

J

Jim

I recently installed Office X, and Excel seems to work, but Word
crashes as soon as I hit return, or basically type anything--and
sometimes even if I am just reading something.

I tried wiping all traces of Office with the program included on the
installer CD and then re-installing. I also tried installing the 10.2
update, to no avail.

If it helps, I use an iMac, 1G processor, 768 Mb memory. I've had it
for only a few months.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Jim

Hi Jim,

First try repairing disk permissions:

For OS 10.2.x:
Go to Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities. Open up Disk Utility. Select
your hard disk, then click the First Aid tab. Click the button to "Repair
Disk Permissions".

For OS 10.1.5:
Download the Repair Privileges utility, free from Apple, and run it:

If that doesn't do it, it's possible you have a damaged font. You'll find
the procedure for testing fonts here:

Hope this helps.
