New Install of MS Excel 2008 fails. Why?

I get an error message that "Microsoft Excel has encountered a problem and
needs to close". This is a fresh install on a MacBook Pro running Snow
Leopard. It runs fine on my desktop running the same OS. I've tried running
it as another user, with the same error. I re-built the permissions and still
receive the error. Here is the crash log:
