new install office 2003

Brad

Hi There,

I have Office XP installed on my system.
I have just purchased a full version of Office 2003, not
an upgrade.

Should I uninstall Office XP before I install the Office
2003?

Will I lose all of my Outlook emails when I uninstall
Office XP?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks
Brad

You could uninstall Office XP before installing Office 2003. But it probably wouldn't matter much. If you upgrade, many of your pesonal settings will stay intact. Also if you uninstall Office XP then install Office 2003 you will find that many personal settings persist anyway. Hence I would just update your current install.

Now one thing to understand about uninstalls especially those applications which use the Windows Installer technology. The uninstall never remove files that the install did not explicitly install. Since of course your pst which should be a name and not outlook.pst, the installer did not install your pst and so it won't be removed. If you have left it outlook.pst then just go to C:\Documents and Settings\%profile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook and save your outlook.pst somewhere safe. The uninstall will not remove it but better safe then sorry, eh?

You may need to enable show hidden files and folders to see the Local Settings folder. In that case go to Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options... | View. You will see in the list box below all the options you have for showing or hiding files. Enable appropriately.

Th fact that you have a full version does not mean you cannot upgrade your current installation of Office. You can if you want to.
