recently purchased a new laptop with windows xp home edition w/ sp2 and can't
install office 97. trying to install from the cd. get error message "16 bit
windows subsystem - rnbovdd.dll. an installable virtual device driver failed
dll initialization" can this version of office run with xp? how can i make
it work?

I would suggest you purchase Office 2003.
