New MAC Owner -- Having Office 2004 Issues

Hey.

Does anybody know why I am having difficulty opening various Word,
Excel, and PowerPoint files? I keep getting the message that the
programs are unable to open the specific file because the file is
corrupt, in-use, or of a type not recognized by the program in
question. The very same files can be opened on other PCs and MACs with
absolutely no issues. I think it might have something to do with the
fact that the files have come through email. Does anybody have any
insights on this? Any help would be appreciated greatly.

It's probably not the files' coming through email.
