New Macbook Pro 2009 & Microsoft Conflicts

I just bought the new Macbook Pro 2009. With black key board. I installed my original Microsoft Office 2004. and now I cant seem to read any files before 2003 on my computer. I forward the documents to other people with a macbookpro 2008 (4, 1) and they can open no problem as I could on my mac book 2004. While on excel I am also experiencing the program shutting down in the middle and not saving things that I saved while adding info. I am at a loss. The reason I dont buy 2008 is because I work with point zero programing for work a lot and that program does allow macros to work. I know this because my girlfriend has both 2008 & 2004 installed and always uses 2004 when running point zero. Are my problems related and is there anyone out there experiencing any conflicts with the new macbook pro 2009 and microsoft office 2004?

My computer Info:
Specifics: MacBook PRo Silver with black keyboard
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz

Thanks in advance!

The breed of Mac shouldn't make any difference... What matters is whether
you've updated Office since installing from your original 11.0.0 disk. If
you haven't you'll need to run Search for Updates from the Help menu, then
run Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions afterward.
