"New mail has arrived...." displays first message only

I

Ian Douglas

I'm using MS Outlook 2002.

I tend to have a lot of programs/windows open when I'm working and
like to rely on the "New mail has arrived. Would you like to read it
now?" message to tell me when a new message has arrived. When I get
this message I click OK to read the message and reply etc. as
necessary. Then I go back to doing whatever I was doing before the
message arrived, without ever switching to Outlook's main window.

My problem is that it may have been more than one message that
arrived, and the above process totally ignores any second and
subsequent messages that arrived at the same time (my mail is
collected automatically at one minute intervals from an exchange
server).

The result is that I am unaware that message(s) 2+ have arrived, so
they remain unread. During the day they move further and further down
my inbox, so I may not spot them until a much later, which can
embarrassing sometimes.

Is there a way to configure Outlook to give a "New mail..." message
for *each* message, or display a list of messages or something like
that? Has this been addressed in a later version of Outlook?

Many thanks
Ian D.
