New message alert icon in task bar

I can´t see the small envelope icon in the task bar when i get new mails, as
i used.
The option is habilitated in the advanced options menu
(tools-preferences-advanced mail options) but it does not appear.

What can i do? a solution i need!!

Version of Outlook? Type of email? Notification doesn't work for web mail or
for mail in alternate Exchange folders. Look up "about Desktop alerts" in
Outlook Help for more limitations and tips.

Outllook 2003.
he notification doesn´t work for any incoming mail, wathever the type it is.
i have checked the "about desktop alerts" and it says noting about that.
