new message windows appear in Word taskbar list

I'm having a strange problem: when I compose a new message in Outlook 2003,
the window appears in the list of Word windows in the taskbar, not in the
list of Outlook windows. How can this be fixed?

Diane and I have seen that many times over the years and been unable to nail down the cause or cure. It usually changes back to the Outlook group eventually.
