New Messages in Public Folder

I have a public folder that I want to behave like the inbox does for unread
messages by making the folder bold and showing a count of unread messages. I
believe I saw it work on a folder I made a while ago, but can't figure it
out on this particular folder. I have maintain per user read status on it
and it contains post items. Any help on this would be great. Thanks.
