New NG suggestion

Earl Lewis

Anyone out there ever wondered if there was a specific newsgroup for the Sharepoint aspects of project server? To me, this would be a worthy addition to the ms.public.project NG list. Heres' a few thoughts for justification of such a recommendation - at least in my own little mind.

1) the WSS stuff is a completely separate application from the project specific aspects of project server
2) the project server WSS issues can generally NOT be addressed directly on the existing ms.public.sharepoint newsgroups because those folks aren't necessarily using project server with WSS
3) M$ has created a completely distinct and unique WSS template (called the Project Workspace) to accomplish their "integration" objectives with project server
4) posting questions about project server/WSS issues on ms.public.project.server seems to sometimes confuse or mix subjects that are often not related at all
5) it's hard to find answers to project server/WSS specific issues when you need to cull through all the rest of the project server stuff

Any thoughts out there on this? If this does seem like a good idea, how do we get M$ to set it up?

Here are some justifications for not doing so.

1) If there was a separate group for Project Server WSS then people would
still post WSS questions in the project server group.
2) Having WSS questions in the Project Server group lets questions which
involve both to be resolved in the same place.
3) Most people who answer these sorts of questions would end up having to
read both newsgroups.

In my opinion, duplicate posting or posting in the wrong group is a bigger
problem than the confusion that you mention.

Thanks for the feedback Jack.

Anyone else feel strongly one way or the other?

I agree with Jack, I have enough troube trying to decide whether to post on
Sharepoint or Project Server NG's and getting directed from one to the other
when I invariably get it wrong. A third NG might well finish me off.

I bet Mike Walsh would be in favour of a "Project Server + WSS" newsgroup !

Wouldn't it make it easier for you to decide which one to post to ?

I'm with you Juhani. I don't get how it's MORE confusing to add one new newsgroup. There are 26 NG's for MS Access (not counting the foreign language groups) and they seem to work for the Access folks just fine. Sure there's always going to be a little confusion but people play nice and refer others to the right place if there clearly not going to get a response where they originally posted.

I'm still voting for a new sub-group for project.WSS!
