Been using one Note - have abou 90 *.one file on my USB stick that used to
make up the notebook. Got a new computer and now all out of whack.

I tried uninstalling One Note, deleting the MyNotebook folder and keeping my
USB stick unplugged for the reinstall hoping that I could then learn where
the origina (new) notebook files lives and what its extension is.
Instead...One Note installs and says I cant find your notebook file...maybe a
network problem etc.

What does a brand new users get...at some point it must make a base notebook
file..

Appreciate any help.,...I love One Note

By default, the "My Notebook" folder (it is a folder!) resides in C:
\Documents and Settings\{yourname}\My Documents\My Notebook and all of
the *.ONE files and subfolders are stored there.

If you copied all of your previous *.ONE files to a USB key before
uninstalling/reinstalling, you should be able to copy the files from the
USB key to that location above on the new computer.

If you deleted the "My Notebook" folder on the new computer, recreate it
under "My Documents" and that should restore OneNote's "link" to the My
Notebook folder and then OneNote should automatically find any new *.ONE
files copied there.

If you have an alternate location which you'd like to use as the "My
Notebook" folder, you can specifythis location in OneNote by going to
Tools | Options | Open and Save | and Modify the My Notebook path. I'd
recommend against using the USB key or any inconsistent or volatile
storage medium as the primary storage location.
