New Notebook

Paul

I'm temporarily away from the office and don't have access to the server.
Can I create a new SHARED notebook locally which can then be transferred to
the server when I re-establish a connection? And, will the OneNote
synchronization work if I do?

Technically, there is no difference between a shared and non-shared
notebook. That means, create your notebook on your local hard drive.
When you are back in the office, close the notebook in OneNote. Then
move the entire notebook folder via Windows Explorer to the network
share of the server. Following that, open the notebook from the network
share in your OneNote.

By your question I am assuming you are using ON 07.

I don't know if you can create a notebook, mark it as shared, and have it
be automatically synchronized up.

However, you could just create your notebook off-line then manually put
it up on the server later. Just close the Notebook in OneNote, manually
move it to the server using Windows Explorer, then open it up again from
the server location like you did your other shared notebooks.

You would have to notify the other people that there is a new notebook on
the server so they could open it too. I don't think OneNote would just
automatically open it up on their machines. Remember, OneNote 07 treats
each Notebook as a separate entity not part of some master collection.

There is no mechanism to mark a notebook as shared in OneNote. A
notebook is always shareable. The question ON asks you when you create a
new notebook is mainly there to not confuse people and give them some
assistance with creating a new notebook (for some reason, the idea that
a notebook is always shareable is more complicated to understand than
the notion of creating a shared vs. a non-shared notebook).
The question whether a notebook can be shared or not depends on whether
the location the notebook is stored at can be shared. So you can have a
notebook locally and share it, as long as that local location can be
accessed via the network.
