New Office update stops my e-mail

I have installed and uninstalled the latest Office updates (16th January
2006) twice now as they are preventing me from sending and receiving e-mail.
Anybody else have this problem? If so please help.

It is not the Office UPdate that is the most likely culprit but the Norton
Internet Security update. Check your NIS to ensure Outlook is set as one of
the "allowed" applications.

I have had a problem with Norton last week but managed to rectify that. This
new problem is definately a Windows update as I have purposley not updated
Norton. This new problem only occured when the Auto Update on Windows ran. I
have since switched that off and ran a "System Restore" to an earlier date
and Outlook runs perfectly.
