new outlook user

when i try to open microsoft office lookout i get the following:

the connection to the microsoft exchange server is unavailable. outlook
must be on line or connected to complete this action.

i click okay

then the microsoft exchange server box opens

microsoft exchage server: my internet server

mailbox: my name

and the statement "once the names are checked and are underlined click okay"

when i click check name it says:

name could not be resolved. the connection to the microsoft exchange server
is unavailable. outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.

when i click okay on the microsoft exchange server box anyway i get the
following statement:

cannot start microsoft outlook. unable to open the outlook window. the set
of folders could not be opened. the server is not available.

i need help to get outlook open!

Do you really connect to an Exchange Server? If so, do you enter the
correct server name when prompted?

If not, go to the Control Panel, Mail, and configure your account with
the correct POP3/SMTP or IMAP server information.
