New Page with Consistant Header/Footer

I would like to insert a new page that has the same header and footer as the
rest of the document. I have tried inserting page breaks and section breaks,
but these interrupt the header and footer. This will be a long document with
a consistent header and footer which I would like to be able to edit in one
place, and have it update on all pages. It is imperative that I somehow break
the pages though, as each page is discrete (that is, each page has a set of
text which needs to be separate from the pages before it and following it).

Manual page breaks (Ctrl+Enter) should not "interrupt the header and footer"
because all such pages are in the same section.

Similarly, when you insert a section break, the default setting is Link to
Previous, meaning that the header and footer are the same as those in the
preceding section. You would have to explicitly turn off that setting,
separately in each header and each footer, to prevent the continuation of
the same header/footer from one section to the next.

Exactly what behavior are you seeing, and how is it different from what
you're trying to achieve?

Thank you for the reply. Each page in my document has a transition from a
"regular" text layout (1, page-width 'column') to two-columns of text. I
achieved this in the only way I know, with a continuous section break, which
really isn't what I want, but it kind of works. Previously I had problems of
trying to edit a header on one page, and it not updating in the other,
'defacto' sections, despite the fact that I did not alter the setting you
spoke of. However today it seems to be working. How do I explicitly change
that setting (so I can check if it is turned on or off if this issue should
occur again)? Also, do you know of any other way to transition from one
column of text to two columns of text without a continuous section break?

A section break is the only way to switch from one set of columns to
another.

When you open a header pane (in Word 2003 or earlier, click View >
Header; in Word 2007, right-click the header area and choose Edit
Header), if that header is linked to the header of the previous
section, there will be a tag "Same As Previous" attached to the dashed
line. If it has been unlinked, then that tag won't appear.

To change the linking in Word 2003 or earlier, click the Link to
Previous button on the Header/Footer toolbar that appears when the
header pane is open. In Word 2007, click the Link to Previous button
on the Header & Footer Tools tab of the ribbon. In either version, the
button toggles the linking on or off.

The same mechanism works separately for footers. Also, if "Different
first page" or "Different odd and even" is in effect, the linking is
only between headers or footers of the same kind (primary, odd page,
or first page).
