New profile to fix reminders?

S

Sean

I have migrated to Exchange Server using Outlook XP SP2 on 2 Windows XP
machines and one Vista machine.

Last night I noticed that I am not getting reminders for new Contacts
birthdays and anniversaries. Any regular appointment I schedule gives me a
reminder just fine.

Further, I modified all of my old contacts information by changing the
birthdays and anniversaries in the details tab to match birth years and
wedding years as the start dates. I then deleted the old recurring
appointments and left the new ones.

After this, all of my reminders disappeared for the old contacts too
(birthdays and anniversaries only). They still exist in my Calendar and in
each contact's Activities tab and when I open them up, they all have a 2 week
reminder set.

I have been using the same .pst file for years until I migrated to the
Exchange Server. I copied all of my folders over to the Exchange file and
deleted my .pst files. The only backup is too old (6 weeks or so) and I have
made wayyyy too many changes to revert to this file.

I have already attempted the /resetfolders /cleanreminders switches (I may
have typed them wrong here but I used them correctly when I put it in the run
bar). I got no errors but it didn't change anything.

Will creating a new Profile cure my issues and if so, what is the best
method to export my entire file over and open it in the new Profile so as to
preserve every last message, contact, appointment, task, etc... you get the
idea? Or will I even need to do that since I am on the server; the new
Profile once set up should just pull over all my data right?

Thanks for all insight and response to my issue, it is greatly appreciated.
If any further info is needed to assist, please request.

The reminders are gone from my Outlook Web Access too.

I have removed my old profile and am creating a new one called Exchange
Server. It doesn't appear that this is going to change my situation though.
All of the recurring appointments (birthdays and anniversaries) are in the
calendar and when opened show a 2 week reminder flag turned on.

I am not ever going to have the time, (nor would I want to if I did) to
recreate all of these contacts and corresponding calendar items.

All of the data is there in the file. Some folks have mentioned the
possibility of "broken links" to me. It seems rather shortsighted if this is
unfixable as it seems like it should be easy to re-associate these items in
whatever way necessary to get it to work right again.

I am losing it, someone please help me resolve this, I will be forever
grateful!

use the cleanreminders switch on the xp machine... make sure outlook on
vista is not open. If this fixesi t, it could be an issue with Outlook 2002
(which is not supported on vista).

Also - are the items in the default folders? Reminders only fire from
default folders.

Diane thank you for getting with me on this. My apologies, I specified the
wrong version of Office - old habit. It is indeed Outlook 2003 SP 2 -
supported on Vista.

I had already tried both /resetfolders /cleanreminders switches.

All Calendar and Contact items in question are residing in their respective
default folders. Tasks are too and they seem to work right on the money. So
do regular appointments. It is just birthdays and anniversaries associated
with their respective contacts.

I am building a new profile, but since the same problem occurs on my Outlook
Web Access, I think the issue will persist once I run the new profile (in a
few minutes).

I really appreciate your assistance :)

I am in my new profile and it pulled all my info/folders back in from my
Exchange Server automatically. I basically started from scratch. I cut and
pasted all outlook's hidden files to a folder on my desktop and forced
Outlook to create all new files. It functioned as if it was the first time
it was run.

The same problem persists though, as I predicted.

If I create a new Contact named '123test' and set a birthday and anniversary
for tomorrow, it appears on my Outlook Today page and calendar for tomorrow
(as it should). When opening the recurring events, they both have a reminder
set for 2 weeks. The reminder box, sadly, does not display them. This is a
real problem, please help me fix this up.

It seems that if you create a new birthday or anniversary within the
timeframe of you reminder period, it will NOT appear as a reminder. If I set
it more than 2 weeks in the future (my default reminder - 2 weeks) it will
then appear when you get within the timeframe. Why is this? That behavior
seems odd.

It seems like it is still working though; at least it will be working full
force 2 weeks from yesterday :) I hope I should say, all evidence points
that it will be ok.
