New projects not picking up Ent. Global settings

New projects are not picking up all the settings in the Enterprise Global
template.

I had up a version of the Enterprise Global in which the default scheduling
options were Fixed Units and Effort-Driven (in Tools / Options / Schedule).
Projects created with this version of Enterprise Global had their task
options set this way. I backed up this version of Enterprise Global.

Then I changed the options in Enterprise Global to Fixed Duration and not
Effort-Driven. Projects created with this version had their task options set
the new way.

Then I restored the earlier version of the Enterprise Global and closed
Project and re-opened it. I have verified that the Enterprise Global options
are now set to Fixed Units and Effort-Driven. But new projects still have
their task options set to Fixed Duration and not Effort-Driven! What do I
need to do to get new projects to pick up the Enterprise Global settings here?

You are misunderstanding the purpose of the Enterprise Global, which
functions like your organization's "library" of enterprise Views, Tables,
Filters, Groups, Reports, Fields, etc. You use the Enterprise Global to
automatically distribute all objects in the library to every project
manager. You cannot use the Enteprise Global to distribute settings in the
Options dialog to every project, which I believe is what you are attempting
to do. The lone exception to this rule concerns the default Currency for
every project.

If you want every project manager to use particular Options settings in
every project, such as setting the Task Type to Fixed Duration, then you
will need to do the following:

1. Modify every enterprise project template to the correct Options settings
2. Teach your project managers to make these Options settings in every
active project

Hope this helps.

OK, I am beginning to get it. When I set such options and then click the
"Set As Default" button, where are those defaults stored?

They are stored only on your PC. That's why no one else can get them from
the Enterprise Global.

Some are stored in the registry and some are stored in the local global.mpt
file.
