New Slide> Reuse Slide

Our office just upgraded to PP 2007. I'm using it in compatability mode
because I need to upload presentations to a data library which can not yet
receive PP2007 files. My specific problem is that when I Add Slides > Reuse
Slide and check Keep Source Formatting it does NOT keep the source
formatting. The font size increases, all formatting is out of whack in both
the slide master AND the text on the slide. Further - when inserting 2 to 10
slides it can take up to an hour to insert. I know THAT is not correct.
Please help as I have to combine and present upwards of 100 slides in the
same file and this issue is KILLING me! Thanks fo rany help offered.

I am having similar problems with new presentations created in PowerPoint
2007 that are pulling in slides that were originally created in PowerPoint
2003. It does not matter if I keep the source formatting or not. Are there
some compatibility issues?

Hi Andy & Sara

There does seem to be some formatting issues with 're-use' slide even when
'keep source formatting' is ticked. Try copy & pasting the slides instead as
that sometimes has better results.

Lucy,
Is MS working on a fix or do I just have to live with it? I did read the
link you suggested but it doesn't really help.

I'm afraid I don't know if MS are going to fix it or not - they are
certainly aware of it.

Taking an hour to insert 2-10 slides is not normal behaviour. When you say
you read the article does that mean you installed the 'good' printer driver?
I'm sorry to go on about it and I'm well aware that the printer driver thing
makes us all sound like a bunch of printer driver obsessed harpies but it
*honestly* fixes some to the strangest problems that have not a single thing
to do with printing. So humour me, please

I followed the instructions and loaded a local "good" printer driver on my
PC. It did have a network driver installed. I then tried new slide > reuse
slide and had the same problem as before. I even powered down my machine
after installing driver. I've tried the new slide > reuse from both the
network and my local machine with no difference noted. I've tried saving both
files in 2007 (.pptx), then new slide > reuse and no difference. PPT 2007
really hates me. . Keep offering suggestions and I will try them all. I
appreciate your time!

Hi Andy

Seeing as re-use slide takes an age and then doesn't work very well I would
certainly be going down the copy/paste road ;-). I used to use insert ->
slide from file all the time but now I copy/paste much more....

But back to the issue. Have you run diagnostics? How large are the files
involved? What kind of stuff do they have in them (large images, linked
excel files, just text, etc)?

I'm not sure I'm going to be able to help you fix this one, but we might as
well give it a go

Hi Lucy,

I've taken to cut and paste and it is working fine. I will run diagnostics
today. My files are 300kb to 28,000kb and when combined can be 41,500kb.
Mostly text and 1 jpg per slide. I do not link excel files very often. My
presentations have hyperlinks within the file itself.

I'm assuming you are in Australia? I had a exchange student from Sydney live
with my family for a year. Was a great experience.

As Steve said '07 can be awful slow at dealing with .ppt files.

Yes, I'm in the lucky country - in Adelaide where we had our highest minimum
temperature on record a few nights ago (33.9 C or 93 F). Still it's set to
only be a high of 39 C tomorrow so things are cooling down

Hi Lucy,
I've made some progress this past week. I've found that I've had an equal
number of slide masters as I do slides, so when I have 75 slides I have
almost as many masters - which can't be good. I've taken to deleting all
duplicate masters and that has helped with the file size. Also our office has
had a lot of anomolies in excel, access, and word 2007. The applications do
not react the same on different machines. Very weird.

Never been down-under but would love to visit some day. Thanks for all you
help, I've learned enough to make 2007 PP bearable.

Hi Andy

Glad to hear you're getting there! Yep, I found when I migrated my ppts to
'07 it was worth the time to sort out the masters & colour schemes etc as
they were a complete mess. And once I figured out I only need 1 master and
many layouts life got a whole lot easier .
