New! Status on completed tasks

Tasks that are set to 100% completed on the project timeline still show as
'New!' under 'My Tasks' and under Reminders/Tasks the message 'You have X new
tasks assigned to you.' displays.

The only way I've found to resolve this is to add a 'Publish' column to the
project plan and mark it 'No' when tasks are completed. is there a better
way to do this via a server setting or something?
