Hi,

I'm trying to create a new paragraph style; maybe 2. This will be a recurring format in the document: #1) A name in caps, centered - hit return. #2) right underneath the name will be centered text indented 2 inches on the left and 1 and a half inches on the right.

Can all of this be one style? Is this 2 paragraphs because I had to hit return for the text below #1? Do I have to create separate styles for 1 and 2?

I created a new style for #1. But for #2 I can only figure out to tab the left side 2 inches. I can't figure out how to also indent the right side. In fact, in trying to create a 3rd style for the right indent I can't figure out how to make any kind of right indent.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You need separate styles for 1 and 2. And yes, every time you hit
return, that's a new paragraph. When you set up Style 1, set the
"following style" to be Style 2.

You don't need or want a third style for the right indent. To set a
right indent in Style 2, Format | Style, New (or Modify NameOfStyle2),
click on the little Format menu in the Modify dialog, select Paragraph,
Indents and Spacing tab, and you will see options to set both Right and
Left indentation.

The basic dialog only offers the most common features--use the Format
menu in the Modify dialog to access the full power of styles.

Are you perchance writing a script? If so, it seems to me as though
scripts demand a lot of features that are not easy in Word, from reading
other questions and answers. You might investigate script-writing
software. If not, ignore this comment--you could easily be quoting
interviews.
