New to Exchange

We have installed Exchange in our organization, but only created mailboxes
for a few users. (Other users still use POP email client.) We use the
exchange server and still check a POP account from Outlook.
When I have exchange as my default I can send mail to anyone with a mailbox,
BUT if I send one to (e-mail address removed) (who doesn't have a mailbox), the
exchange kicks it back as undeliverable. But I can send mail to
(e-mail address removed). It works fine if the POP account is my default account.
Any ideas.

I really don't recommend this configuration, note - it can work, but it is
always going to be clumsy, and you aren't taking advantage of most of
Exchange's features this way (and you can't centralize your mail
administration / virus scanning/ whatnot). Also (and it may not matter in
this scenario, I realize) you should always include your version of Outlook
when you post in here.

Is mycompany.com set up in your Exchange server's recipient policy? If so,
it's been told that it is responsible for all email for the mycompany.com
domain, and can't possibly know where to send the mail - as there is no user
with mycompany.com in AD.

Where is mycompany.com's mail actually being hosted?

You can tell Exchange to forward mail with unresolved addresses elsewhere
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/319759 ) but that's an Exchange issue and
not best dealt with in an Outlook group.

I do recommend your company review its requirements and set up Exchange to
handle all the mail, both internet & internal, and ensure that all users
have mailboxes on the server, if you plan to use it.
