New To Groove

I am new to Groove.

Is it possible to use Groove without Groove Server? If so would it only work
peer-to-peer over a LAN?

In other words could two users on different LANs use it to sync?

Thanks!

Hi commonwealthtx -

Groove works without a relay server if both users are on the same LAN.

Network security generally prevents two computers on different networks
finding each other. Groove's servers include facilities to make the
introduction between two computers on different LANS. Once the introduction
is made, Groove's servers don't need to be involved.

This is the same whether you're running your own relay servers or using
those provided by Microsoft.

Is it possible to use Groove 2007without any Servers or Network Collaboration?

Basically, I am contimplating buying Office 2007 Professional or Ultimate.
I like Ultimate because it has OneNote and these other apps... However, if
it is not feasible to use these products without a server I guess should
then go Professional and fork out the seperate $100 for Upgrading and using
my OneNote records!

Any thoughts about the above and use of Ultimate without a server for both
InfoPath and Groove?

Thank Mark. Any idea on how someone can sign up for Microsoft's relay
servers? I can't find anything anywhere on it.

You do not need any servers. In the same subnet Groove uses DPP to detect
the Groove Clients and then starts up a peer to peer ov er port 2492.
So if you have that open on your clients it works great

I installed Groove 2007 in my work lan and then went to my home. I try it
there in my house lan and it worked perfectly. I could see my work buddies
and update content. Although i went to a branch office and i couldnt connect
or send a thing.
Is that a server issue? Anyone knows how to fix it? or what steps to follow?
