New to visio

Hi,

I am new to using visio pro 2002.

My objective is to draw a complex networking diagram with
routers, complete with IPv4 and IPv6 addressing and the
various routing protocols that are in use. Having
everything in one diagram is causing confusion.

I would like to be able to draw a base diagram with the
routers and addressing and then have seperate diagrams for
IPv4 and IPv6. However, I do not want to have to maintain
three seperate dagrams. Is there a way to have these
seperate IPv4 and IPV6 diagrams automatically link to the
base diagram ?

Here's what I would like to be able to do.

Base diagram:

Traffic Generator -- Router 1 -- Router2 -- Router3

IPv4 Diagram:

Add details that pertain to IPv4 only
These details would only show up on this diagram
and would somehow link to the Base Diagram.

IPv6 Diagram:
Add details that pertain to IPv6 only.
These details would only show up on this diagram
and would somehow link to the Base Diagram.

Any changes made to the base diagram would automatically be
propagated to the IPv4 and IPv6 diagrams. Changes made to
the IPv4 diagram would only be made there and not
propagated to any of teh other diagrams, (similiarily for
the IPv6 diagram)

Is any of this possible using visio ?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
Rick.

you might want to look at how visio uses 'layers'. I often use them to show
for a given topology the different logical network application flows. visio
allows you to turn their visibility on and off as appropriate.

Hello Rick

iServer (from my company www.orbussoftware.com) runs within Visio and uses a SQLserver to keep a repository of Visio updates. It allows drawings to be linked together (they can be hyprelinked from the master drawing) and any updates to seperate drawings will be tracked as a single version. You can also keep data fields that you define on each object. Drop me a line if you have more questions, (e-mail address removed)

Best Regards

Kyle
