New To Word 2008

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Hi, This might be a totally stupid question but I can't seem to find the answer when searching the program myself.

I can't import a picture from file and have it actually appear. I know how to do it. The problem is it is not displaying the image at all.

Another case:
I went to SmartArt Graphics and tried to create a "Hierarchy" layout. But when I'm done inputting the lists and close the box it doesn't appear anywhere.

Now I see what appears to be a the right side of my paper on the LEFT side of the screen with only grey in front of my (where the paper usually is located when editing).

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. When I go to print preview it shows blue lines about the shape of a landscape shaped tabloid paper.

Any thoughts? I have had this program installed and not able to use it at all.

Thanks,

J

Go to Word>Preferences>View and make sure "Image placeholders" is NOT
checked.

That may cure both problems.

If not, go to View menu and make sure "Print Layout" view is checked.

And make sure you have applied all the updates> go to Help>Check for Updates
and run it until it tells you everything is up to date.

If this still does not solve the issue, come back ‹ we will need to dig
deeper.

Hope this helps

Especially if it's a recent installation make sure you have the most current
updates applied. It's imperative that you keep both OS X & Office updated.

The most likely cause of your problem is your Preference settings. Go to
Word> Preferences - View, make sure that the box is checked for "Drawings"
and "Background colors & images..." and that the box is _not_ checked for
"Image Placeholders". Also, go to the Print preferences to be sure you have
the box checked for "Drawing objects".

Thank you both.

Neither posts helped unfortunately.

I have no updates available (for OS or MS Office)
I have "Drawings" Checked
I have "Background colors and images..." Checked
I have "Image Placeholders" NOT Checked
I have "Print Layout" selected

Any other options?

Software Info Again:
Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac
Version: 12.2.3
Latest installed update: 12.2.3

Thanks for the help,

As John said, this is going to take a bit more investigation, but hopefully
it won't be a major issue to overcome :) Let's get some more feedback:

Shut Down [not Restart] your Mac for a minute or two. Do you have the same
problem with the same document once you start up again?

Is it happening in all documents -- including blank new ones -- or just one
document in particular?

Launch Word while holding the Shift key... Same problem?

Log in using a different User Account... Same problem with the same document
or with others?

Reply with your findings for each of those procedures.
