New twist on the on this machine/other machine default rule

I onl;y use 1 macine and one pst file, so the random default on rules to "For
other machine" has been bugging me for a while. Coyuld I be right in
thinking that when I have outlook.pst and also archive.pst open in the
folders bar, Outlook sees the archive folder as "this" machine and
outlook.pst as "other" machine. This would explain why sometimes this rule
defaults to for other machine only. f this is not the reason, why does it
sometimes do this for new rules? it does of course prevent the rule form
working, so I have to manually clear the "for this machine" box.

No, the archive folder shouldn't have an effect. If you use the pst in two
different profiles or different windows logons and share a pst, it might see
the other profile or logon as on a different machine.

Ah, now here's the thing. I only have one profile on the computer and don't
share a pst. And the other machine thing only comes up from time to time. As
far as I can make out the problem only ocurred when I had the archive file
open to let "Lookout" browse the contents. I know it's weird but I can't
think of any other answer, unless it was something to do with copying folder
names across from Office XP originally?
