New Web Query?

Hey, I was just wondering if someone could help me out. I have a client who
is running the Mac version of Excel v 10.1.5 and I am running Excel on my
windows platform. I have set up something through my version for them that
uses a Web Query from a txt file. I gave them instructions based on the
windows version but they say there is no menu for a web query. I was
wondering if it is still possible to do a web query with the Mac version of
excel and what are the steps involved so I can pass them on.

Thanks

Hi Hooligan-

I believe it is there in v.X, but it is implemented somewhat differently and
discreetly hidden.

Have your user go to Data>Get External Data>Run Saved Query. They should be
able to run it from wherever they have the text file stored, or they can
first move it to:

Applications | Microsoft Office | Office | Queries

Thanks CyberTaz, i was just curious as to how it would be achieved to import
this data from a
url address eg http://www.adress.com/textfile/text.txt . Is the method you
described only restricted to your local machive. Its just that the txt file
is constantly updated by a php file thats all. I have it working on my
windows excel version through the new web query option.

Hi,

You can download a template I made that lets you paste or type a URL and
then gets the web query.

You can dowload the template here:
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/18898

Put it into the MyTemplates folder in the Office 2004:Templates
directory and it will appear in the project gallery.

To make your own web query:
In a blank Word document put the URL
File > Save As > TEXT ONLY
Change the file extension from .txt to .iqy

Then you can use Excel's Data > Get External Data > Run Saved Query to
open the .iqy file.
