New window hidden by toolbar

Whenever I start a new document or open an existing document, the top
of the document touches the top of the screen, and it extends to the
bottom of the screen. This means that the top of the document is
obsured by the horizontal tool bars. It used to be that a new document
would open with its top below the toolbars, but one time after word
crashed it stopped doing that. I've tried moving the toolbars around
but short of deleting them, I have to resize and move each window that
I open.

That's been reported before. Try moving the toolbar, very gradually--there
should be a point at which the toolbar will happily settle into a sweet
spot, and then the document will jump out of the way. Once they are docked
properly, Word will handle all this. (My Word 2004--the toolbar is right up
to the menu bar, but the doc has a thin line between toolbar and top of
doc.)

Thanks for the information that crashing can cause the toolbars to lose
their docking.

If that doesn't work, what version do you have? Making the change in the
Normal template (what new blank documents are based on) may be necessary.
